Gluten-Free in Yakima?

If you’re shopping in Yakima, Washington for food without gluten and for restaurants that have a gluten free menu for Celiac Disease, gluten intolerance, GFCF diet and even just for preventative health reasons, here’s a list of gluten free restaurants in Yakima and Yakima restaurants with gluten free menu items.

Gluten Free Bakery in Yakima

That’s right, there’s a gluten free bakery in Yakima. We might not have a lot of alternative anythings here, but we do have a local baker, Jenny Mae Simmons, whose family struggled to find high quality gluten-free pastries, breads and cakes. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about Jenny’s store.

Gluten Free at the Grocery Stores in Yakima

Safeway has a few gluten free products. One Safeway has them mixed in with the regular items while another has them in a separate section. I can’t decide which is more convenient, really. Both Fred Meyer and Rosauers have great gluten free sections built into their health food and bulk foods aisles.

Yakima Restaurants with Gluten-Free Menu Items

We don’t have any entirely gluten free restaurants, but here are a few restaurants that have gluten-free menu items. Gepetto’s Italian Restaurant on Summitview Road has a gluten free spaghetti. Outback Steak House indicates a few gluten free items on their menu. Yakima Health Food Stores with Gluten Free Products

There is a health food store in Union Gap. Personally, while buying local is definitely important to me, I prefer the health food sections at Fred Meyer and Rosauers because I’ve always found them to be clean, the staff friendly and the selection admirable, with reasonable prices. I can’t say that I’ve had the same experience at Mill Creek, though I urge you to at least go check them out one day. Beem’s Nutrition is a great place to find supplements and processed health food products. Their bulk whole food selection leaves a lot to be desired.

  • Thanks for this list… I will now be able to find bakeries that are gluten free. This information is very helpful especially for mothers who want to keep their family healthy.

  • I would strongly recommend a fine meal at Tony’s Steak House (221 West Yakima Avenue) they were very accommodating to my gluten/soy allergies. They will work hard to accommodate any other allergies you have as well. I find the Outback in Yakima to be substandard for the chain (even if they do offer gluten free menu), and I’d rather pay a couple dollars more and eat at a restaurant of Tony’s caliber. The experience was one of the best that I’ve had since my diagnosis and right up there with any I’ve had in my life. I was so impressed I ate there every night with my wife. The ambience is wonderful, the staff warm and engaging. The first night there I sat above the kitchen (you can see the kitchen in full progress) and noticed the measures they take to avoid cross contamination and was beyond impressed and I knew that I didn’t have to fight the anxiety of whether I was going to get glutenized or not. I can’t put a price on eating out and eating out safely so that is why I am compelled to recommend this establishment to all Gluten Sensitive travelers to Yakima…if only they were open for breakfast too :)
I can’t wait to head back there in 2 weeks…I can smell the apple wood scent in my memory as I type.

If you do come back to town, it would absolutely be worth your while to head out to Jenny Mae’s G Free bakery for some bread products to take home with you. She makes donuts and pretty fabulous desserts as well.

Before I found out my son and I have Celiac my husband and I went to Tony’s and loved it. Glad to know it is still a safe option!
